What students can expect to learn from this programme

The programme brings together researchers, clinicians and patients so that our students can understand the lived experience of patients with neurodegenerative disease and cutting-edge translational neuroscience research into regeneration of the central nervous system.

Our programme will help students:

  • Develop a critical and comparative knowledge at the level of a specialist in the current background, theories, concepts and technical methodologies regarding stem cells with respect to neurodegeneration, regeneration and translational neuroscience
  • Develop critical and comparative knowledge at the level of a specialist in the current background, theories, concepts and technical methodologies regarding neurodegenerative diseases, and the multiple models used for their scientific research
  • Gain all the necessary specialist professional and academic skills to analyse, research, synthesise and critique scientific developments
  • Develop key abilities to communicate fundamental concepts to scientific, clinical and public audiences
  • Develop the skills to progress further in their education/vocation

For an example of our programme's ethos and aims, watch the following video from our Programme Director Dr David Hampton:

Here is also an overview of our course structure:

As noted in the introduction videos above students will have access to a range of excellent scientists, clinicians, nurses and patients to develop their learning and understanding and as an example please see Prof Siddharthan Chandran's (who was heavily involved in helping to start our programme) excellent TedTalk below:
