Discover our team members Expand all Collapse all Consultant Neurosurgeons Paul Brennan Mr Brennan's research spans the laboratory and the clinic, combining molecular, epidemiology and clinical investigation to guide rationale innovation to improve patient care. He applies this strategy to improving diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for people with brain tumours, and traumatic brain or spinal injuries. Ioannis Fouyas Mr Fouyas is a consultant neurosurgeon with extensive experience in skull base and neurovascular surgery. He contributes to a range of research projects in neurovascular conditions, collaborating with neurologists and interventional neuroradiologists. Imran Liaquat Mr Liaquat is a consultant neurosurgeon and is the national clinical lead for the Scottish Adult Neuro-Oncology Network. He contributes to both preclinical and clinical neuro-oncology research in Edinburgh. Neurosurgical Registrars Mitch Foster Mr Foster started his neurosurgery training in Liverpool, working at the Walton Centre and Alder Hey before moving to Edinburgh to work on an ECAT CRUK PhD fellowship. He is now a SCREDS clinical lecturer and neurosurgical registrar in Edinburgh. He is developing computational methods to identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities for Glioblastoma. He is especially interested in targeting the cells left after surgery which cause the cancer to come back. Michael Poon Mr Poon is a SCREDS clinical lecturer and a clinical epidemiologist with expertise in population-based linked health data, medical biostatistics, and research methodology. His research focuses on developing optimal study designs to translate research findings into clinical practice, particularly for brain tumours. He collaborates with computer scientists, NLP practitioners, immunologists, radiologists, and health data scientists. He is passionate about academic training and regularly supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students' dissertations. Jamie Loan Mr Loan is a Wellcome Trust-funded ECAT clinical lecturer and honorary neurosurgical trainee who is passionate about finding solutions to the consequences of acute brain injury. He combines preclinical and clinical methodologies to understand processes of disease that are harmful or protective in patients and aim to use these to develop new treatments or optimise current management strategies.
