July 2017: Stephen Lawrie has won a Public Communication prize for his work with the Edinburgh Fringe, blogs and comments in the media. Image Many congratulations to Professor Stephen Lawrie, Head of the Division of Psychiatry, who has won the British Association for Psychopharmacology (BAP) Senior Public Communication Prize. The BAP Public Communication Prizes are awarded annually to reward excellence in both clinical and non-clinical science communication to the public in the area of psychopharmacology. Stephen won the prize for his many and varied public engagement contributions, including: 'Mental health is…mental' talk at the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas, Edinburgh Festival Fringe August 2016 Radio 4 ‘The Borders of Sanity', June 2016 Harmony Choir at the Edinburgh Fringe, blog March 2017 The Sunday Times - Call for action over student smart drugs, September 2016 Comment in 'Why schizophrenia need not rob us of a life in academia', The Guardian, February 2017 'Untangling resilience to depression' event at the Midlothian Science Festival, October 2016 This year, Stephen is presenting a talk entitled 'Psychiatry is the best medicine' at the Edinburgh Fringe.
