Dr Michael Stringer, Stroke Association Research Fellow and Lecturer in MRI Physics & Medical Physicist, is investigating brain scans to understand how brain damage changes over time in stroke survivors with cerebral SVD. Part of his investigation is assessing  our body's waste clearance system and what role it plays in this disease.

Michael and his team are analysing brain scans taken soon after stroke, then 6 and 12 months later, in people whose strokes were caused by SVD.

You can read more about Michael’s research in the latest edition of Stroke News, produced by the Stroke Association at the link below:

Like many people, my family has been affected by stroke and the long-term vascular damage that causes dementia.'

'Currently, we don't know why some stroke survivors go on to have more strokes and others don't - even when they are on the best treatments. I want to find out why the brains of some stroke survivors become more damaged than others!
