A joint meeting was arranged to showcase the current research being undertaken in each Centre. The range of talks presented were split into 3 sessions:

  • Stroke & Vascular Dementia
  • Population Health & Prevention
  • Heart-Brain Links

Daniela Jaime Garcia, Clinical Trial Manager/researcher for LACI-Cog 1 was first on the agenda with her talk, "The brain as a vascular organ: endothelial dysfunction and the path to dementia" .

Later in the afternoon, Professor Joanna Wardlaw's presentation, "Small vessel disease as viewed from the large arteries. What does this tell us?" summarised the key findings from a recent paper released. It challenges the current understanding of the causes of lacunar ischaemic stroke with researchers identifying enlargement and widening of arteries in the brain as being strongly linked to lacunar stroke.

The day proved to be a great success with many new collaborations formed.

Well done to everyone involved in the organisation of this event.
